Charles Richard Hoskins

January 8, 1943 — June 19, 2016

Charles Richard Hoskins, of Reed Valley Estates - London, Kentucky was welcomed into the arms of his loving Savior and Lord on Sunday morning, June 19, 2016. He was 73 years, 5 months and 11 days of age at the time of his departure. Charles was born, January 08, 1943 in Leslie County, Kentucky to the union of the late Graydon and Nell Bowling Hoskins. Charles was united in marriage to his loving and devoted wife, Freeda on September 23, 1965 in Hyden, Kentucky. Charles was a graduate of the Leslie County High School. After graduating college by the age of 19, Charles returned to Leslie County to teach. He was a long-time educator with the Leslie County School System. He served as a school teacher for 32 years and served as principal at Big Creek Elementary and Stinnett Elementary for 15 years. At the end of his educational career, he served as title one coordinator. Charles was an innovative educator, he stressed academics and sports. He had a hard work ethic and encouraged others to be the same way. He always pushed others to be nothing less than the best. During his career as an educator, Charles was instrumental in the completion of the Leslie County High School football field, and track. He later assured the installation of the new football field lighting. He was also instrumental in raising the funds and overseeing the creation and completion of the new Stinnett Elementary Gymnasium. Charles also was a former football and basketball coach. During his time serving the county as a well rounded educator and coach, he touched many lives, as many can attest. He was a devout Christian and devoted member of the Mount Olivet Baptist Church in London, Kentucky. He was ordained as Deacon of the church in 2009 and recently having received the Deacon Emeritus Plaque. He formally attended the Hyden Baptist Church. Charles enjoyed sports, gardening, traveling, fishing, coaching and music. He had an unconditional love for his family. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend.
The prayer of his family was, just this: "Lord if you don't make him well, make him Perfect". He is now PERFECT!

Survivors include, his loving and devoted wife of 50 years, Freeda Hoskins of London, KY, one beloved daughter, Tammy Hoskins & Kelvin of Pax, W.V., one special nephew who he loved as a son, Steve Hoskins & Pam of Grafton, W.V., six brothers, John Henry Hoskins & Rosey of London, KY, Freddie Hoskins & Evelyn of Asher, KY, Philip Hoskins & Debbie of Hyden, KY, Cloyd Hoskins & Donna of London, KY, Randy Hoskins & Barbara of London, KY and Graydon Hoskins, Jr. & Barbara of Asher, KY, five cherished grandchildren, Keegan, Keela, Hannah, James and Charles and one great-grandchild to be, Marlee. A host of nieces, nephews, church family and friends also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M., Thursday, June 23, 2016 at the Hyden Baptist Church with Rev. Roger Wolfe, Bro. Calvin Hibbard and Father Lawrence Thompson officiating. Charles will be laid to rest at the Hoskins Memorial Family Cemetery at Asher, KY. The family will receive friends for visitation from 5:00 until 9:00 P.M., Wednesday evening at the Wolfe & Sons Funeral Home Chapel.
