Alson Collett

Hyden, Kentucky

Alson Collett, born on November 7, 1941, to the late Boyd & Bernice Hoskins Collett. He passed away peacefully at the Noreen & Greg Wells Hospice Center, Hazard KY on October 26, 2024, at the age of 82. He was A beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Alson lived a life full of love, dedication, and passion.

Alson was known for his deep connection with nature and animals. His love for farming and animals was evident to all who knew him. He had a gentle spirit and a kind heart. 

Alson was a man of many talents and worked in the coal mines during the Finley coal mine disaster. He was instrumental in retrieving the men from the explosion. He was also a skilled carpenter and built several homes in and around Leslie County. He was known as one of the best heavy equipment operators in the area. 

He enjoyed the outdoors, loved animals, trading, and farming. He was well known throughout the county and was well-liked for his willingness to help anyone in need. He loved life and loved his family and friends.

In addition to his parents, Alson was preceded in death by one brother Warren Collett and his late wife & mother of his children Linda Napier Collett.

 He is survived by his loving wife Lavonne Dixon Collett of Hyden, KY, his beloved children, Greg Collett (Stacey) of Hyden, KY, Justin Collett of Tazwell, TN, Aaron Todd Bowman of Hyden, Bonnie Collett of Gray, KY, Melinda Sizemore (Jon) of London, KY and Deborah Collett of OH. Two brothers Wayne Collett of Hyden, KY and Jerry Collett of Cincinnati, OH, one sister Roberta Dondhan of Cincinnati, OH. Six cherished grandchildren, Corey DeRossett, Emily Hicks, Allison Johnson, Cooper Collett, Waylon Sizemore, Rylon Sizemore,  four treasured great grandchildren Lillian Kate Hicks, Reeve DeRossett, Hunter Brandon Hicks, and Iris Ann Johnson.  As well as numerous friends who will miss him dearly. Alson's legacy of kindness, and hard work, will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him.

 A celebration of Alson's life will be held at The Rockhouse Baptist Church Fellowship Hall in Hyden KY on Saturday, November 2, 2024, from 3-6pm.

Arrangements are being handled carefully under the direction of Wolfe & Sons Funeral Home
