Betty Jean Melton, born on April 16, 1962, in Leslie County, Kentucky, to the late Charles and Corsie Lewis Mullins, entered into the presence of the Lord on February 25, 2026, at the Greg & Noreen Wells Hospice Care Center in Hazard, Kentucky at the age of 63.
Jean was a loving and devoted wife to her husband Mike Melton, whom she married on September 2, 2000. Their shared life together was marked by special moments, including cherished Sunday drives in their classic cars. Jean's warmth and love extended beyond her marriage; she was a dedicated sister and friend. She is survived by her three brothers, Rex Mullins of Kingsport, TN, Bill Mullins and his wife Linda of Smilax, KY, and Rocky Mullins and his wife Jessica of Hyden, KY. Jean's two sisters, Mable Pennington of Smilax, KY, and Patricia Hensley of Wooton, KY, also survive her. Additionally, she leaves behind her best friend Linda Coots, with whom she shared over forty years of friendship.
Jean was steadfast in her faith, and was a cherished long-time member of the Full Gospel Church of Jesus Christ at Smilax. She loved gardening and attending church.
Jean is preceded in death by her beloved parents, Charles and Corsie Mullins, as well as her brother Charles Edward and sister Nancy Faye. She was also preceded by her cherished father-in-law and mother-in-law, Elbert and Andrea Melton.
A funeral service to celebrate Jean's life will be held 1p.m. Sunday, March 01, 2026 at Wolfe & Sons Funeral Home in Hyden, KY with Rev. Billy Joe Lewis officiating.
Interment will follow in the at the Carter Kilburn Family Cemetery at Wooton, KY with Rocky Maggard, Ben Farler, Tanner Melton, Dalton Farler, Cody Melton, and Brian Johnson serving as pallbearers.
Visitation will be held on February 28, 2026, from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM, with an additional service at 7:00 PM at the funeral home chapel.
