Beulah Asher

March 14, 1927 — October 8, 2023

Beulah Pace Asher, 96, passed away peacefully at the Greg and Noreen Wells Hospice Care Center, Hazard, Ky on October 8, 2023. Beulah was the youngest of ten children born to Leonard Lloyd “Bud” Pace and Sally (Lewis) Pace on March 14, 1927, in Hyden, Ky.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings: Colonel Pace, Nola Couch, Walter Pace, Rachel Cook, Lloyd Pace, Cora Sizemore, Henry Pace, Rhoda Pace, and Ray pace. Her husband of 61 years, Emmons Asher also preceded her in death at his age of 90. Beulah leaves behind her daughter Louise Asher Gay (Hubert Darrell) of Oneida, Ky; two grandchildren Kevin Gay (Kimberly) and Tracie Brashear (Joel) both of Hyden, Ky; as well as, a host of great-grandchildren, extended family members, and friends. Two sisters-in-law (Bess Pace and Virginia Asher) and a special long-time friend (Mary Mosley) all mourn her passing.

After high school, Beulah became certified as a beautician and worked in the Blue Bonnett Beauty Shop in Hyden. After marriage, she moved to Michigan to begin work on the assembly lines of Chrysler Motor Company. Next, after a brief stay in Piqua, Ohio, she and family returned to Hyden to provide care for her mother. Later, she was called upon to give care to her sister and lastly to her husband. She concluded being a caregiver in her home had become her calling in life. Many remember her as a cashier at Sizemore’s Supermarket as well. As a widow of 14 years, Beulah was blessed with a loving and supportive community including members of Wooton Baptist Church where she served as Sunday school teacher, secretary, and deacon’s wife. She excelled in domestic skills such as sewing, cleaning, and cooking. Her late-in-life pastimes became quilting, knitting dish cloths, and solving jigsaw puzzles. She was a strong matriarch full of wisdom and wit. Some even say she was “One classy lady”.

To celebrate Beulah Asher’s life, a visitation will be held at Wolfe & Sons Funeral Home, Hyden, Ky. On October 11 from 4 pm to 6 pm with a funeral service to follow at 6 pm. Matt Schwenke, Tim Reynolds, and Roger Wolfe will officiate.  A private burial will be at Hurricane Cemetery, Highway 80 on Thursday.. Joel Brashear, James Glen Caudill, Kevin Gay, Doug Pack, Martin Sizemore, and Andrew Weber will serve as pall bearers.
