Brown Sizemore, born on May 9, 1938, in Oakley Cave at Jack's Creek to the union of the late Onzie and Stella Howard Sizemore, passed away peacefully on September 8, 2024, at Hazard A.R.H. Medical Center in Hazard, Kentucky. He is remembered not only for his contributions to his community but also for the love and joy brought to his family and friends. Brown truly was a local "Legend".
Brown was united in marriage to Mary Napier on October 29, 1960 in Jonesville, VA.
Brown dedicated his working life to serving others, beginning his career underground in the mines after high school. His commitment to public service led him to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet at the State Road Department, where he developed expertise in road maintenance and infrastructure. From 1986 to 1989, he served as the county road foreman for the Leslie County Fiscal Court, a role that highlighted his leadership skills and dedication to improving local roads and transportation. In 2007, Brown was elected Constable, serving until 2010 when he ran for magistrate. He was elected as magistrate in 2011, serving two consecutive terms until 2018.
Known for his outgoing personality, his big smile and laughter, Brown loved to entertain and often hosted gatherings at his home where cooking, music, and dancing took center stage. His birthday celebrations were especially memorable, featuring large cakes decorated with deer, reflecting his love for both the outdoors and hunting. He was an avid hunter and gardener, often found in the woods or nurturing the numerous gardens he and his wife, Mary, cultivated together annually. When the harvest was ready that Brown and Mary had worked so hard for, they would share with their friends around the community. He also enjoyed sports, especially the UK Kentucky Men's Basketball games.
In addition to his parents, Brown was preceded in death by four brothers John Henry Sizemore, Howard Sizemore, Carroll Sizemore, and Orville Sizemore. Four sisters Dorothy Howard, Maggie Palombi, Mildred Sizemore and Betty Whitaker.
Brown was deeply proud of his family. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Mary Napier Sizemore of Hyden, KY, and their two beloved sons, Jeff Sizemore (Ima) of London, KY, and Craig Sizemore (Nikki) of Hyden, KY. He also leaves behind his cherished daughter, Melissa Baker (Charles) of Wooton, KY, as well as his dear sister, Barbara Baldridge of Moreheard, KY. Brown was a proud grandfather to Keisha Holland, Chuck Baker, Savannah Sizemore, Cole Sizemore, Tate Begley, Marc Begley, and Keith Begley, in addition to nine great-grandchildren and a host of treasured nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends who loved him dearly.
