In Loving Memory of Daniel Napier

May 10, 1947 – November 5, 2026

A Life of Faith, Family, Hard Work, and Love

Daniel Napier, born May 10, 1947, in Hyden, Kentucky, to the late Pearl and Ella Sizemore Napier, passed away on Thursday, November 5, 2026, at the University of Kentucky Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky, at the age of 79.

A devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather and great-grandfather, and a man of unwavering faith, Daniel lived a life defined by hard work, dedication, and an endless love for his family.

On December 24, 1966, Daniel married the love of his life, Juanita Baker Napier. Together, they shared nearly 60 wonderful years of marriage, building a life filled with love, laughter, cherished memories, and a family that meant everything to them. They were blessed with four children: Douglas Napier, Daniel Wayne Napier, Ella Michelle Collet, and Suzette Nicole Napier.

Daniel began his working career at Ohio Chemical & Sealer in Dayton, Ohio, before returning home to the mountains of Eastern Kentucky. He spent 35 years working in the surface coal mining industry, including employment with Shamrock Coal, Ikerd Bandy Coal, and other mining companies. Throughout his career, he operated and maintained heavy equipment and served as Maintenance Superintendent at Ikerd Bandy Coal. Daniel was known for his strong work ethic, mechanical knowledge, and remarkable ability to fix just about anything. There was rarely a problem he couldn't solve or a piece of equipment he couldn't figure out.

In February 1976, Daniel made the most important decision of his life when he accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Savior. From that moment forward, his faith became a guiding light in his life. He was a faithful member of Rockhouse Pentecostal Church, where he proudly served as a board member. Daniel loved the Lord and believed in the importance of faith, family, and helping others. His Christian faith was a foundation upon which he built his life, and his family finds comfort in knowing that his earthly journey has ended, but his eternal home is with the Lord.

Outside of work, Daniel had a passion for camping, car racing, and rebuilding wrecked vehicles. A true handyman in every sense of the word, he loved working with his hands, bringing broken things back to life, and sharing his knowledge with others. Some of his most treasured moments were spent teaching his son and grandsons how to work on vehicles, passing along not only his mechanical skills but also the value of patience, determination, and a job well done.

Above all else, Daniel loved his family. Whether it was a family vacation to Myrtle Beach, a camping trip to Levi Jackson State Park, or simply spending time together, he treasured every opportunity to make memories with those he loved. Those family trips, filled with laughter, stories, and togetherness, became traditions and memories that his family will hold close to their hearts forever.

Daniel was preceded in death by his parents, Pearl and Ella Sizemore Napier; his infant son, Douglas Napier; his sister, Camsie Couch; and his brothers, Clayton Napier and Lonnie Napier.

He leaves behind his beloved wife of 59 years, Juanita Baker Napier; his son, Daniel Wayne "Danny" Napier and wife Beverly of London, Kentucky; his daughters, Ella Michelle "Michelle" Collet and husband Rob, and Suzette Nicole "Nicole" Napier and husband Scottie; his brothers, Otis and wife Sylvia of Hyden, Kentucky, Big Ray and wife Donna of Hyden, Kentucky, and Pearl Wayne and wife Sharon of Hyden, Kentucky.

He is also survived by his eight cherished grandchildren: Joshua Daniel Napier (Kim), Jacob Bobby Wayne Napier (Brooke), Matthew Scott Napier (Lauren), Luke Thomas Collet (Cameron), Ella Nicole Collet (Jon), Macey Danielle Napier, Robin Collett, and Casey Collett; and nine precious great-grandchildren: Asa Napier, Railee Amon, Braxton Napier, Brenton Napier, Weston Collett, Kayden Lane, Tristan Stamper, Zack Patrick, and Raelynn Collett.

Daniel's greatest legacy will not be measured by the years he worked, the equipment he repaired, or the vehicles he rebuilt, but by the lives he touched and the family he loved so deeply. He was a man who could fix almost anything, but his greatest gift was the love, wisdom, and memories he gave to those around him.

Perhaps one of the most precious memories his family will forever hold close is the final words Daniel spoke to his beloved wife, Juanita: "I love you, honey." After nearly 60 years of marriage, those simple words spoke volumes about the love they had shared throughout a lifetime together. They were words of love, devotion, and tenderness that Juanita and their family will treasure forever. Though Daniel's voice may now be silent, those last words will echo in their hearts for the rest of their lives. What a beautiful final reminder of a love that even death cannot take away.

His family will forever remember his hardworking hands, his knowledge of all things mechanical, the camping trips and beach vacations, and the countless lessons he taught along the way. He leaves behind a lifetime of memories, a strong foundation of faith, and a family who will carry his love with them always.

Though his work here on earth is finished, the love he gave, the lessons he taught, and the memories he made will live on for generations to come. His family takes comfort in the promise of eternal life and the blessed assurance that they will meet again someday.

Forever loved, deeply missed, and never forgotten.
