Darrell Melvin Asher (of Big Creek, Kentucky) was born on November 9, 1959, in Beverly, Kentucky to the union of the late Farmer and Opal Brock Asher. He had been a life-long resident of the area by occupation he worked as a coal miner for more that 17 years.
Darrell was known for growing huge pumpkins.
Darrell was also known for his kind and hardworking nature. He possessed a determination that never allowed him to stay idle for too long. Despite facing illness, he demonstrated unyielding perseverance and fought bravely throughout his sickness. Even in his sickest times, he continued to push forward with unwavering strength.
He had an infectious sense of humor and always enjoyed joking and picking on his family. Darrell brought laughter and joy into their lives through his comical nature and quick wit.
When he wasn't working or making people smile with his jokes, Darrell pursued several hobbies and interests. He loved hunting ginseng, fishing, and going on hunting trips—especially rabbit hunting. Gardening was another passion. But above all else, spending time with his grandchildren brought him immeasurable happiness.
Darrell departed this walk of life on January 02, 2024 at his residence in Big Creek, Kentucky. Darrell was 64 years old.
Darrell's proudest accomplishment in life was undoubtedly his family. He adored his wife Isabelle Bowling Asher of Big Creek, KY, and cherished the time they spent together. His love extended to his beloved son Darrell Asher (Brandi) of London, KY and beloved daughter Kristen Fitch (Billy) of Manchester, KY. He also had two stepsons: Travis Bowling of Big Creek, KY and Michael Bowling of Lexington, KY.
In addition, other surviving family members include his brother Lloyd R. Asher (Lola) of Beverly, KY and sister Della Asher of Warbranch, KY. Darrell's six adored grandchildren, Brody Asher, Peyton Asher, Kinzey Fitch, Parker Asher, Ryker Asher, and Raegan Asher brought immense joy to his life. The mother of his children, Mary Ann Asher.
Darrell was preceded in death by his parents Farmer and Opal Asher. He was also preceded in death by his brother Jerry Asher, brother-in-law Hobart Asher, nephew Hobart Ray Asher, and niece Angie Asher.
The family will receive friends and family for visitation on Saturday evening, January 6, 2024, at 6p.m. at Riverside Baptist Church in Beverly, KY.
The funeral service will be held at 2p.m. on Sunday, January 7, 2024, at the Riverside Baptist Church with Jimmy Ward and Bryant Harris officiating.
Interment will follow the services at the Asher Cemetery at Beverly, KY with Darrell Asher, Billy Fitch, Ralph Bundy, Travis Bowling, Michael Bundy, Kenny Asher, and David Stewart serving as pallbearers.
Arrangements are being handled carefully under the direction of Wolfe & Sons Funeral Home.
