David Allen Caudill

David Allen Caudill, of Berry, Alabama, former life-long resident of Leslie County, was born February 23, 1989 in Whitesburg, Kentucky. He was the son of P.J. Pennington and the late Sherazon "Sherry" Stamper Pennington.

David was united in marriage to Kayla Bentley on September 04, 2010. Together they built a life of love, traveling, hard work, and parenthood. To their union, two cherished children, David Preston Cole Caudill, and Anna Rae Caudill. David had a true father's love for his children and an unbreakable bond. He enjoyed being a Dad and being involved in the lives of his children. Whether it was fishing trips with Preston or Daddy - Daughter dates with Anna, this brought true joy to both David, and the kids.

Family was always at the forefront of David's life. Family gatherings, especially holidays and birthdays, those were David's favorite. Being surrounded by the presence and love of his family, brought a genuine warmth of satisfaction and comfort.

For more than twenty years, David worked tirelessly as a coal miner. He took immense pride in his career and worked with real sweat and grit. He was highly respected by his peers and co-workers alike, known for his dedication to the coal industry. While he loved his job, he did it to provide the best life he could for his family. The move to Alabama was uncertain, but he went in with his boots on, knowing the life it would provide for he and his family. Through the years of work in the coal mines, David gained a lot of friends and brothers in the industry; Bobby Stevens, James Michael Lewis, Austin Lawson, Tyler White, Casey Ousley, Tad Dowlen, Bozo, "99" Richard Fields, Marshall North, Chris Lewis, David Osborne, Lawrence Ray Bray, and Arthur Wells.

While family and coal mining was the biggest part of David's life, he had many hobbies that also made life fun. Taking road trips with his family, guns, and bow/archery. He was a true outdoorsman, loving hunting, fishing, four wheeler riding, and just being in the mountains. Light hearted jokes and pranks was also a favorite past time for David, having a good sense of humor and finding humor in all that he could.

David passed from this life suddenly on Saturday, August 15, 2026 at his home in Berry, Alabama. David was only 37.

Preceding him in death is his mother Sherazon "Sherry" Stamper Pennington and a brother Brian Webb.

Left to Cherish his memory are his wife Kayla and children David Preston Cole Caudill and Anna Rae Caudill, all of AL; his dad, P.J. Pennington  (Patricia) of Yeaddiss, KY;  father-in-law & mother-in-law Billy Ray and Trina Bentley of AL; A brother Docky Webb of Western, KY, and a sister Alice Lang (Jared) of Jenkins. A very special family friend, Stanley Simpson.  A host of family and a multitude of friends also mourn his passing.

The funeral service to commemorate the life of David Allen Caudill will be held at 1pm Tuesday, August 25, 2026 at the Full Gospel Church of Jesus Christ at Smilax, KY with Rev. Billy Joe Lewis and Thomas Smith officiating.  Special words and comments by David Osborne. 

Interment will follow at the Pennington Cemetery at Yeaddiss, KY with Bob Stevens, James Michael Lewis, Scotty Hoskins, Austin Lawson, Arthur Wells, P.J. Pennington, Docky Webb, and Stanley Simpson serving as pallbearers.

Friends and family may gather for visitation from 6pm - 9pm Monday evening, August 24, 2026 at the Full Gospel Church of Jesus Christ at Smilax, KY.
