November 22, 1953 – October 27, 2026
Some lives are lived like sweet music, leaving joy in every heart that listens-and Della Mae’s song is one we’ll be thanking God for always.
On Tuesday morning, October 27, 2026, Della Mae Asher, age 72, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, leaving behind a lifetime of love, laughter, beautiful memories, and a whole lot of people who blessed to know her.
Born November 22, 1953, to the late Farmer and Opal Asher, Della Mae was a woman whose beauty went far beyond what the eye could see. Though her face was every bit as beautiful as her heart and her voice, it was the love she carried for others that made her truly special.
Della Mae carried a brightness with her that touched everyone she met. She had a wonderful sense of humor, a little bit of feistiness, and a heart full of compassion. She was the kind of person who could find something good in anybody. She loved people from all walks of life, never passing judgement on the paths they had traveled. Instead, she offered kindness, understanding, and friendship. She believed in loving people right where they were, and she had a beautiful way of making everyone feel welcome.
Della Mae spent four years working as a preschool teacher at Red Bird Mission, helping care for and nurture young children. She later worked for the United States Postal Service in Roark, Kentucky, for 16 years. No matter where life took her, she loved being around people, sharing a laugh, and making a friend along the way.
One of Della Mae’s most treasured gifts was her beautiful singing voice. She loved singing and playing her guitar in church beside her mother and brothers, sharing her God-given talent with others. Her voice was so beautiful and comforting that she was often asked to sing at funerals, bringing peace to families during some of life’s hardest goodbyes. What a wonderful gift to have, and what a beautiful thing to share it with others.
Her faith was the foundation of her life. Della Mae loved the Lord, and she dearly loved going to church. For her, church was about more than Sunday morning worship. It was about fellowship, friendship, and being surrounded by people she loved. One of the highlights of her week was getting to attend church alongside her daughter, Amy. Those Sunday mornings together were something she truly cherished.
Della Mae also found great happiness in the simple pleasures of life, especially her flowers. She loved tending to her flower garden, watching things grow, and seeing the beauty of each new bloom. She found joy in the little things, and somehow, she had a way of helping everyone around her see the beauty in them, too.
But of all things Della Mae loved, nothing came before her family.
She absolutely adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Each of her grandchildren carries their own special collection of memories with Mamaw Della Mae, but there are some they’ll all share forever. Her funny bedtime stories, her adventurous four-wheeler rides, the laughter, and all those ordinary days she somehow made extraordinary.
To her family, she wasn’t just a mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin, and sister. She was a caretaker, an entertainer, a second mother, and a living testament to Christ’s love.
Della Mae knew her share of heartache throughout her life. She endured losses that would be difficult for anyone to bear, yet she never allowed those hardships to take away her love for others. She continued to find joy, share kindness, and hold tightly to her faith.
Della Mae was preceded in death by her parents, Farmer and Opal Asher; her loving husband, Hobert Asher; her three children, Hobert Ray Asher, Dennis Asher, and Angela Asher; and her three brothers, Jerry Asher, Lloyd Ray Asher, and Melvin Asher.
Left to cherish her beautiful memory is her loving daughter, Amy Collett and husband Scottie Collett of Warbranch, Kentucky; her six grandchildren, Kayla Smith, Kimber Richardson, Cody Asher, Trevor Hoskins, Connor Hoskins, and Kyrie Collett; and nine precious great-grandchildren.
She also leaves behind many dearly loved cousins and friends who were blessed by her friendship, kindness, and love throughout the years. And, of course, one of her most special little companions, her beloved dog, “Lee Lee”, who held a special place in her heart.
Though our hearts are heavy, we choose to remember della Mae for the joy she brought into this world. And for a woman who spent so many years missing loved ones who had gone before her, there is comfort in knowing that heaven has welcomed her home, where there are no goodbyes and the reunions are everlasting. We can only imagine the beautiful music she’s making now.
So, rather than saying goodbye to Della Mae with tears, let us also celebrate her with smiles and laughter. Because if there’s one thing she taught us, it’s that even through life’s hardest seasons, there’s still beauty to be found, kindness to be shared, and a whole lot of living and loving to do.
What a beautiful life. What a beautiful soul. And oh, what a blessing it was to call her ours.
