PFC Eddie Kidd, passed away on May 27, 2026 at the age of 77. Born on September 12, 1948, in McDowell, Kentucky.
Eddie served honorably in the United States Army, committing himself to his country during a period in history. From 1967 until 1970, he served bravely in Vietnam, earning numerous commendations that bear testament to his courage and commitment to our country. His decorations include Bronze Stars, a Purple Heart, Overseas Bars, the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, and Sharp Shooter medals—awards that reflect his valor.
Following his military service, Eddie devoted his talents to the field of auto repair, working as an auto painter. Eddie was an avid antique car collector, finding joy and fulfillment in preserving the beauty of classic automobiles. He also enjoyed drawing and the simple everyday tasks around the house, where he enjoyed piddling and making repairs—activities that kept him occupied.
He is survived by his daughters Nannie Steele of Wayland, Kentucky; Penny Joe Schroll and Michelle Kidd, both residing in Battle Creek, Michigan; and his son Jamie Kidd of Maryland. In addition, his three brothers, John Kidd of Indiana, Tony Kidd of Mud Creek, Kentucky, and Aaron Kidd of Lexington, Kentucky, as well as his sister, Ann Kidd of Mud Creek, Kentucky. A host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren also survive his passing.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Phil.
A graveside service to commemorate the life and service of PFC Eddie Kidd will be held at 1p.m. Friday May 29, 2026, at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery South East in Hyden, Kentucky. Full military honors by Leslie County DAV.
