Effie M. Couch, born April 11, 1922 in Hoskinston, Kentucky to the union of the late Joe and Suzanne Howard Morgan. She departed this walk of life on Thursday, December 06, 2012 at the Greg & Noreen Wells Hospice Care Center in Hazard, Kentucky. She was 90-years, 07-months and 25-days of age. She was a life long resident of Leslie County and was residing at 14543 Highway 421 - Hoskinston, Kentucky at the time of her passing. In 1948 Effie was united in marriage to her loving and devoted husband, Raleigh Couch which precedes her in death. After graduation, Effie taught school in a one room school house at Greasy Creek. After teaching for a year, Effie moved to Detroit, MI to build fighter planes during World War II. She moved back home to Leslie County where she worked along side of her father, Joe in the County Circuit Court Clerks Office. Effie was later Elected to office to fill her fathers shoes as Leslie County Circuit Court Clerk. She served as an elected official until her retirement from office in 1993. Effie not only was an elected official, but was truly a "Public Servant". She worked tirelessly to serve the people of her county which she cared so much about. As she would say "I love the good people of Leslie County". Effie was a lifelong and influential republican. She was awarded the "Lifetime Republican Award" in 2010 at the County Republican Rally & Lincoln Club Dinner. Effie's most significant love was for her church and her church family at the Stinnett Church of Christ. Effie was a life long member and attended faithfully. Effie enjoyed gardening as a hobby. Her love for her family and grandchildren was evident. She was a devoted matriarch caring for their lives and their happiness. The family appreciates and acknowledges the genuine concern, love and devotion of those special friends who were so dear to her heart. Effie is preceded in death by her parents: Joe and Suzanne Howard Morgan; her husband: Raleigh Couch; 1-infant daughter: Betty Sue Couch; 3-brothers: Parker, Sterling and Charles; 4-sisters: Fannie, Sally, Rose and Faye. Effie Morgan Couch leaves surviving the following relatives: 2-Sons: James Douglas Couch and William H. "Bill" Couch (Sandra) of Hoskinston, KY; Special Daughter: Rebecca Thompson Couch of Stinnett, KY; 1-Sister: Constance Sizemore (David) of Winchester, KY; 5 grandchildren: Kristi Couch Caldwell (Clay), Shanna Couch Holliday (Loren), James Douglas Couch, Justin Edwards (Melinda) and Tegan Couch (Jerry); 6 great-grandchildren: Alexander "A.J.", Kira, Landry, Bennett, Leighton and Spencer; Special Care Giver: Loretta Coots; A host of other cherished nieces, nephews, church family and friends also survive her passing. Funeral services for Effie Couch will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. - Sunday, December 09, 2012 at the Stinnett Church of Christ with Keith Bowling officiating. Interment will follow the services at the Morgan - Hoskins Cemetery at Stinnett, KY. The Couch family will receive friends for visitation after 6:00 P.M. - Saturday, December 08, 2012 at the Church.
