James Paul Howard

James Paul Howard was born June 09, 1945 in Hyden, Kentucky, the second child of the late Robert and Mary Farler Howard.

Paul spent his childhood and early teenage years in Hyden, KY until moving to Ohio in 1961 at the age of 16.  He fell in love and married Grace Campbell on January 24, 1964 in Springfield, OH.  After marriage, they moved to Wabash, IN where he worked as a lift truck driver.  After 33 years, he and Grace retired and came back to his roots in Hyden.

Paul enjoyed life.  He loved to travel, bird watch, feed birds, listen to bluegrass music and look at classic cars.  He was a talented craftsman.  He thoroughly enjoyed woodwork and cutting wood.  His specialty was making shelves and bird houses.

In recent years, Paul gained a love for attending the senior citizens daily when he was able to do so.   Above all, he had a fierce love for his family and God.  Paul was devout Christian and was a faithful member of the Camp Creek Church of Christ.

Paul won his race on Wednesday, June 21, 2023 with his wife by his side.  Paul was 78 years old.

In addition to his beloved parents, Paul was preceded in death by one brother, Clarence Howard and one sister, Vanda Rose Howard Sawyers.

Survivors include his loving & devoted wife of 59 years, Grace Howard of Hyden, KY, one daughter, Paula Begley of Covington, KY, two brothers, Steve Howard (Margie) of Wabash, IN, Kirby Howard (Sue) of Springfield, OH, four sisters, Audrey Woods (Charles) of Oneida, KY, Loretta Gibson (Don) of Wabash, IN, Margie Bennett (Jim) of North Manchester, IN and Connie Feltner (Bruce) of Hyden, KY.  Three cherished grandchildren, Paul David Begley (Katie) of Dry Ridge, KY, Ashley Begley of Erlanger, KY and Chelsie Begley of Covington, KY.  Also surviving are eleven cherished great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Service Information

A visitation celebrating Paul’s life will be held for friends and family from 1p.m. until 4p.m. – Sunday at Wolfe & Sons Funeral Home.  Honoring Paul’s request, cremation will follow the services.

The family request in lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy take place in form of donations to the Greg & Noreen Wells Hospice Care Center, 101 Dennis Sandlin, MD Cove, Hazard, KY 41701.

Arrangements are being handled carefully under the direction of Wolfe & Sons Funeral Home .
