John R. Bell

John R. Bell, of Hyden, Ky was born on April 7, 1957, at home in Hyden, Kentucky to the union of the late Harry & Annalee Morgan Bell.  John lived a life characterized by his commitment to his family and his passion for his work.  He was a retired carpenter and was a true family man. 

John's career as a carpenter was marked by his significant contributions to the Begley Sawmill. He played an instrumental role in the startup of the mill and dedicated many years of his life to its operations, demonstrating a steadfast work ethic that defined his character and hard work. 

At home, John cherished the simple pleasures of life. He enjoyed spending time with his loving and devoted wife, Deborah Gail Pittman Bell, whom he married on May 21, 1977. Together they created a warm and welcoming household filled with love and respect. John was a proud father to two sons, Tim Bell of Hyden, KY, and Wendell Bell (Tabatha) of Helton, KY.

John's family was at the core of his existence. He devoted his life to providing for them and ensuring they had better opportunities. His grandson, Wendell Kaden Bell of Helton, KY, held a special place in John's heart. He cherished the moments spent watching Kaden's ballgames on television and being a part of his life, embracing his role as a grandfather with joy.

In addition to his immediate family, John is survived by his sister, Anita Sizemore of Dayton, OH, as well as his cherished mother-in-law, Jewell Pittman of Willow Springs, MO. He also leaves behind a sister-in-law, Micky Bell of Stinnett, KY, a special cousin, Edmond (Angie) Morgan of Stinnett, KY, and a host of other relatives and friends who will remember him fondly.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Annalee Morgan Bell; his beloved daughter, Brenda Gail Bell; his father-in-law, Wendell Reid Pittman; his brother, James Bell; his sisters, Evelyn Simpson and Vanda Dodson; and his special aunt and uncle, Johnie Morgan, Jr. and Bonnie Morgan.

The funeral service will be held at 12 noon Sunday, August 24, 2025 at Rockhouse Pentecostal Church with Ted Couch officiating.

Interment will follow the service at the family cemetery.

Friends and family may gather for visitation Saturday evening from 6p.m. - 9p.m. at the Rockhouse Pentecostal Church.
