**Obituary for Marlene Cornett**
Marlene Cornett, was born on August 12, 1943, in Perry County, Kentucky, to the late Sam Morris and the late Alphia Morris Henson. With profound love for her family and a compassionate spirit that touched all who knew her, Marlene devoted her life to nurturing those around her. She was a a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend,
For over 17 years, Marlene owned and operated the former Cornett Restaurant, where she poured her heart into crafting delicious meals for her valued customers. Her talents extended beyond the kitchen, as she was also a licensed cosmetologist and beautician, always giving her best in everything she undertook. Marlene's dedication to her community was evident through her generous acts of kindness, often preparing meals and delivering them to hospitals, embodying her sincere concern for others.
In her leisure time, Marlene found joy in sewing, playing bingo, and watching Westerns. Yet, nothing brought her more happiness than the time spent with family. A seasoned cook, Marlene was known for her treasured recipes, particularly her famous chicken and dumplings, which brought joy to family gatherings.
Marlene passed peacefully on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, at the age of 82.
She leaves behind her cherished children: three sons, Samuel Cornett (Sesha Grundy) of Wooton, KY, Freddie Cornett, Jr. (Amy) of Lexington, KY, and Billy Asher Cornett (Kirsten) of Georgetown, KY; two daughters, Teresa Cornett (Bill Deaton) of Wooton, KY, and Samantha Asher Cornett of Hazard, KY; and a step-daughter, Geraldine Gibson of Yeaddiss, KY.
Marlene will be lovingly remembered by her treasured grandchildren: Zachary Cornett, Paige Hoskins, Dawson Cornett, Carter Cornett, and Troy Cornett, as well as her four great-grandchildren, Kara Dunnigan, Layla Hoskins, Blakley Asher Cornett, and Lillykate Hoskins. She is also survived by her dear friend, Cindy Hearld, and many other relatives and friends who will miss her greatly.
Marlene was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Freddie Cornett; her daughter, Melissa Asher; her great-grandson, Zane Lewis; and a host of brothers and sisters.
The funeral services to commemorate Marlene's life will be held on Thursday, July 16, 2026, at 2 p.m. at the McIntosh Church of God in Wooton, KY. Ronnie Melton and Clifton Adams will officiate.
Interment will follow at the Cornett Cemetery in Wooton, KY, where family members including Billy Asher Cornett, Carter Cornett, Troy Cornett, Freddie Cornett, Sammie Cornett, Zach Cornett, and Dawson Cornett will serve as pallbearers.
Friends and family are invited to gather for visitation from 12 noon until the service hour at 2 p.m. at the church.
Arrangements are being handled with care and compassion under the direction of Wolfe & Sons Funeral Home.
