Martha Alice Lewis

MARTHA ALICE WELLS LEWIS, of Hyden, Kentucky, departed this life on Tuesday, April 12, 2016 at the age of 88 years and 11 months. Born May 12, 1927 in Smilax, Kentucky to the union of the late Lue and Maudie Bailey Wells. Martha was a homemaker and life-long resident of Leslie County. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Martha was a musician, she enjoyed playing the guitar, singing and writing music. She loved her flowers and working in the garden. On Sundays, it became a weekly tradition for her family to gather at her home and she would cook for them. Her unconditional motherly love and care will be missed greatly by her family. Other than her parents, Martha was preceded in death by her husband, Felix G. Lewis, four sisters, Ethel Emery, Dallie Wells, Delphia Combs and Becky Harris, two infant siblings, and one infant grandchild.

Survivors include, six beloved sons, Lorenzie Lewis (Mary), Felix Lewis (Phyllis), Donnie Lewis (Melva), Roger Lewis (Mary), John C. Lewis (Mary Grace), all of Wooton, KY and Tim Lewis (Nikki) of Hyden, KY; one beloved daughter, Stephana Shepherd (Ricky) of Wooton, KY; three sisters, Emily Tuco of Hollansburg, OH, Lula McFarland of Williamsburg, KY and Ruth Baker of Lexington, KY; thirteen grandchildren, twenty great- grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren; special niece, Maudie Jean Thomas; special friend, Betty Kirk; Martha is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday, April 15, 2016 in the chapel of the Wolfe & Sons Funeral Home with Rev. Roger Wolfe officiating. Burial will follow at the F. Lewis Family Cemetery at Wooton. The Lewis family will receive friends for visiting hours from 6:00 until 9:00 P.M., Thursday evening at the funeral home.
