Martha W. Napier

Martha Washburn Napier was born August 28, 1922 in Leslie County, KY to the union of the late Lawrence and Flora Hacker Washburn. She departed this life on Monday, February 25, 2013 at the age of 90 years, 5 months and 25 days. Martha was a life long resident of Leslie County. By occupation she was a self employed merchant. She owned and operated a country store from the early 1950's until her retirement in the early 1990's. She was also a school teacher before becoming self employed. She was a loving mother, grandmother, wife and provider. She loved gatherings and special events with her family and friends. Her children and grandchildren were a significant part of her life. Martha was a giving person, she was always eager to help others in a time of need. She enjoyed gardening, making quilts and spending time with her family. Martha is preceded in death by: Her parents: Lawrence and Flora Hacker Washburn; her beloved husband whom she married on January 30, 1942: Roscoe Napier; 4 brothers: Male, John Henry, Charlie and Dan Washburn; 1 sister: Rose Asher. Martha Washburn Napier leaves the following relatives surviving: 1 son: James E. "Bill" Napier of Hyden, KY; 2 daughters: Jean Joseph (Darrell) and Kim Sumner (Bill), both of Hyden, KY; 3 brothers: Robert Washburn of Detroit, MI, Bernie Washburn (Dorothy) of Smilax, KY and Paul Washburn of Hyden, KY; 3 sisters: Lucy Young of Manchester, KY, Bernice Napier (Taylor) of Detroit, MI and Susie Stapleton (Bill) of Rogersville, TN; 11 grandchildren: Sherri Lyn England, Janna Napier, Jeanne Napier, Anne Burton, Melinda Whitaker, Joy Williams, Beth Farmer, Jenna Farmer, Kayla Fields, Jamey Baker and Brian Farmer; 20 great grandchildren, 7 great-great grandchildren and a host of other family & friends also survive her passing. Funeral services will be conducted for Martha Napier at 2:00 P.M. - Friday, March 01, 2013 from the chapel of the Wolfe & Sons Funeral Home in Hyden with Rev. Roger Wolfe officiating. Burial will follow in the Houston Napier Cemetery at Hyden, KY. The Napier family will receive friends for visitation from the hours of 6:00 - 9:00 P.M. - Thursday, February 28, 2013 at the Wolfe & Sons Funeral Home.
