Mary Christine Henderson was born December 23, 1933 in Hyden, KY to the union of the late Ted and Samantha Huff Wooton.
Mary spent much of her adult life in Michigan and California before returning to KY. She was a dedicated member of the Hyden Baptist Church, where she attended regularly until her health began to decline. By occupation, Mary was a former factory worker, employed by Nabisco.
She loved many things, feeding the birds, playing solitaire, bowling, telling all her stories, and eating all the ice cream she could eat. She was an avid Minnesota Gophers football fan, as well as an avid Kentucky basketball fan. Above all, Mary cherished the time spent with family and friends.
Mary departed this walk of life on Thursday, December 22, 2022 just one day shy of her 89th birthday. She was 88 years old.
In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Eugene Henderson, two sons, Billy Eugene Henderson II and Dwight Anthony “Tony” Francis, three sisters, Rose, Joanna and Betty Wooton. One brother-in-law, Obie Henderson and other beloved family members.
Mary leaves surviving one daughter, Vanessa Henderson of Hyden, KY, one brother, Jerry Wooton (Brenda) of Hyden, KY, six sisters, Ruth Hamilton of Hyden, KY, Lillian Judd of Hyden, KY, Margaret Bowling of Wooton, KY, Aileen Hawes (Wendell) of Louisville, KY, Nadine Shepherd (Omus) of Hyden, KY, and Joyce Fortney Hamberg (Jim) of South Gate, KY. Other survivors include one daughter-in-law, Deborah Cleghorn (Gary), two cherished grandchildren, Melissa Burkhart (Ralph) and Christina Henderson. Three grand fur babies, Duke, Baby and Piper. Sister-in-law, Marcella Cook, one special friend she loved as a daughter, Janice Causey. A host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, other family and friends also survive.
The funeral service for Mary Christine Henderson will be held at 1p.m. – Thursday, December 29, 2022 in the chapel of Wolfe & Sons Funeral Home with Rev. Roger Wolfe officiating.
Interment will follow at the Hurricane Cemetery at Hyden, KY with John Wooton, Ralph Burkhart, Kyle Crisp, Eli Crisp, PJ Muncy, Jim Hamburg, Roy Napier and Philip Muncy serving as pallbearers.
Jerry Wooton, Omus Shepherd, Wendell Hawes and Gary Gleghorn will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The Henderson family will receive friends for visitation from 6p.m. – 9p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home chapel.
Arrangements are being handled carefully under the direction of Wolfe & Sons Funeral Home.
