Michael Arthur Lawson of North Port, AL, former life-long resident of Leslie County was born June 03, 1971 in Hyden, Kentucky to the union of Frances Jones Lawson and the late Jimmy Arthur Lawson.
A life marked by dedication to his family and his career. Michael worked for more than ten years in the lumber business as a skilled lumber grader. During his tenure, he dedicated these years of hard work and experience to Begley Lumber and Pine Mountain Lumber.
While Michael enjoyed his work as a lumber grader and the relationships he had formed during this time, the opportunity was presented to him for a career in the coal industry. He worked for more than twenty years in the coal mines as section foreman. His hard work and dedication was evident in those around him. He was currently working for Warrior Met Coal until his untimely death.
He was loving, and affectionate. He enjoyed laughter and had a great sense of humor. A light hearted joke was always on the table. His family was at the forefront of his life, and cherished each moment spent with them. He especially enjoyed his mom's home cooking; many times hearing him make the statement with great exclamation, "YUMMY"!
Outside from work, Michael had a few hobbies that he really enjoyed, fishing, watching football, and most importantly, playing cards. He was a true poker shark!
Michael passed away suddenly on December 5th, 2025 at his home in North Port, AL. He was 54 years old.
He leaves behind his wife Angie Combs Lawson; one son Austin Lawson (Maggie) of Berry, AL; one daughter BreAna Combs of Albany, KY; his beloved mother, Frances Jones Lawson; two brothers Lawrence Lawson (Lisa) of Hyden, KY, and Keith Lawson (Crystal) of Hazard, KY; two treasured grandchildren, Lainey and Cali Lawson; special friends Randall Combs of Hyden, KY and Rob Fannin of Hazard, KY, life-long friend, Greg Collett of Hyden, KY, and special cousin Lynn AJ Jones of London, KY. A multitude of aunts, uncles, friends, and co-workers also mourn his passing.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Chester & Vera Singleton Lawson, as well as his maternal grandparents, Abijah and Mollie Sizemore Jones.
