Mr. Emmons Asher age 90 of 78 Azalea Drive, Hyden, KY passed away on Sunday, October 18, 2009 at the Eastern Kentucky Veterans Center in Hazard, KY. Born April 18, 1919 in Leslie County, KY to the union of George and Bertie Bowing Asher. Emmons was a Life long resident of Leslie County with the exception of having lived in Michigan for 10 Years. Emmons was a World War II Veteran, having proudly served his country in the army. He was A very active member of the First Baptist Church Wooton where he was ordained as deacon July 17, 1977. He was a former member of the Lions Club and once volunteered with the Habitat for Humanity in Leslie County. By Occupation he was a supply clerk. He enjoyed Fishing, Carpentty, Playing Music and was an Avid Leslie County Eagle Fan. Emmons is preceded in death by his parents; One brother: Edmond and One sister: One Sister: Shirley Slone. He leaves the following surviving: His Loving and devoted wife of 61 Years: Beaulah Asher of Hyden, KY; One daughter: Louise Gay and Hubert Darrell of Oneida, KY; Two brothers: James Lawton Asher of Wooton, KY and John Kent Asher of Covington, KY. Two Grandchildren: Kevin Gay and Tracie Brashear. 4 Great Grandchildren: Colin Smith, Hannah Gay, Emma Gay and Tripp Brashear. A host of many other relatives and friends also survive. Funeral services for Emmons Asher will be conducted on Wednesday, October 21, 2009 at 2:30 PM from the chapel of the Wolfe & Sons Funeral Home in Hyden with Rev. Roger Wolfe and Rev. Jeff Stagg officiating. Burial to follow in the Hurricane Cemetery at Hyden, KY with full military rites observed by the Leslie County DAV Chapter 133. The family entrusted Wolfe & Sons Funeral Home of Hyden to carefully handle the arrangements. The following will serve as pallbearers: Roy Gordon Asher, Richard Slone, James Kent Asher, Kevin Gay, Joel Brashear, Todd Horton and Randy Williams.
