Opal Asher was born May 10, 1934 in Beverly, Kentucky. She was a daughter of the late Wilk and Emma Taylor Brock.
Opal had been a life-long resident of Beverly, Kentucky and was currently residing there at the time of her passing. She was a long-time and devoted member of the Riverside Baptist Church where she led the singing for many years. She loved the Lord and was proud of her church. She used her talent of singing for the Lord, traveling many places spreading the gospel through song; She once appeared on WLJC TV.
Aside from being a beloved homemaker, a loving wife and mother, Opal worked as a nurse aid for the Red Bird Hospital for more than eleven years. She was a dedicated employee and no matter the task at hand, she put her whole heart into it.
Opal always started her morning with a 6:00 cup of coffee. Her enjoyment came from working in her flowers, gardening and canning her harvest. She was a seasoned cook and it was claimed that her fried chicken was her specialty. She loved her family and spending quality time with them. Whether family near or far, she always appreciated a good visit.
Opal peacefully departed this walk of life on December 12, 2023 at the age of 89.
In addition to her parents, Opal was preceded in death by her husband, Farmer Asher, one son, Jerry Asher, a beloved son-in-law, Hobart Asher, brothers, Jim, Marlon, Carter, Ford, Baxter, Denver and "Little" Jim. As well as her sisters, Debbie, Sarah, Ruby and Vestina. Three grandchildren, Hobart Ray, Dennis and Angela.
Opal leaves behind, two beloved sons, Lloyd R. Asher (Lola) of Beverly, KY and Darrell Melvin Asher of Big Creek, KY. One beloved daughter, Della Asher of Warbranch, KY, one sister, Thelma Brock of Pineville, KY, her cherished grandchildren, Amy Lynn Collett, Jennifer Verdell, Lloyd Joseph Asher, Sonya Michelle Sizemore, James Farmer Asher, Rebecca Marie Asher, Jessa Layne Asher, Jericho Taylor Asher, Darrell Anthony Asher and Kristen Nichole Fitch. Twenty six cherished great-grandchildren and eleven cherished great-great grandchildren. Opal also leaves behind a host of orelatives and friends.
A funeral service honoring the life of Opal will be held at 2p.m. Saturday, December 16, 2023 at the Riverside Baptist Church with Jimmy Ward officiating. The reading of the obituary will by her great-granddaughter, Kayla Smith.
Interment will follow the services at the Asher Cemetery where she will be laid to rest beside of her husband. The following will serve as pallbearers: Taylor Asher, James Asher, JT Walker, Jamie Richardson, Cody Asher, Billy Fitch and Conner Hoskins.
The Asher family will receive friends and family for visitation after 6p.m. on Friday evening at the church.
Arrangements are being handled carefully under the direction of Wolfe & Sons Funeral Home.
