Sue Smith-Rittenhouse was born December 04, 1949 in Leslie County, Kentucky to the union of the late Thomas and Viola Lewis Day. Sue was a homemaker and by occupation, she was a nurse aid, employed by the Hazard Nursing Home. Sue was united in marriage to Allen Rittenhouse on April 15, 2014. She was a member of the New Life Pentecostal Church at Wooton, Kentucky. She enjoyed flowers, gardening, camping with family and hunting dryland fish. Christmas was her favorite holiday. She would begin decorating and preparing for Christmas months before. Above all, she enjoyed being involved in the lives of her family. Sue made an impression on everyone she met. Her compassionate heart and desire to care for others was amazing…always putting others before herself. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend.
Sue departed this life on Friday, May 06, 2022 at her home, surrounded by her loving family. Sue was 72 years old.
In addition to her parents, Sue was preceded in death by one infant daughter, Loretta Lynn Kilburn, a brother, Paul Garland Day, a sister, Loretta Day Baker and a brother-in-law, Johnny Ray Kilburn.
Sue leaves behind, her husband, Allen Rittenhouse of Wooton, KY; one beloved son, Thomas Kilburn (Tammy) of Hazard, KY; one beloved daughter, Shawana Shepherd (Donald) of Wooton, KY; one brother, Bobby Day of Wooton, KY; one sister, Leona Kilburn of Wooton, KY; two cherished grandchildren, Jeremy Shepherd of Wooton, KY and Jason Shepherd of London, KY; Seven cherished great-grandchildren; special friend, Susie Price; special niece, Tonda Bradley; A host of other family and friends also survive.
Funeral services for Sue Smith-Rittenhouse will be held at 1p.m. – Monday at Wolfe & Sons Funeral Home with Hobert Couch and Tommy Fields officiating.
Interment will follow in the Lewis-Creech Cemetery at Wooton, KY with Jason Shepherd, Jeremy Shepherd, Kaden Shepherd, Paul Rittenhouse, Mary Kilburn and Everett Bradley serving as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends for visitation at the Wolfe & Sons Funeral Home on Sunday evening from 6p.m. until 9p.m.
