Sylvania Griffith, age 78 of 4222 Cutshin Road, Smilax, Kentucky departed this life on Saturday, January 9, 2010 at the Hazard Appalachian Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Griffith was born June 24, 1931 in Leslie County, Kentucky to the union of George Turner and Cora Boggs Turner. She was a lifelong resident of Leslie County and a member of the Cutshin Church of Christ. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, spending time with her grandchildren, and going to church. She is preceded in death by her loving and devoted husband, Elbert Griffith, her parents George Turner and Cora Boggs Turner, 3 sisters: Callie Stith, Mary Turner, and Alice Lewis, 1 grandson: Josua Leon Adams. Mrs. Sylvania Griffith leaves the following relatives surviving: 4 daughters: June Fouts of Smilax, KY, Irene Simpson & Cortney of Wooton, KY, Melda Adams & Dallas of Hyden, KY, and Cleda Joseph & Donald "Duck" of Wooton, KY. 3 sisters: Lily Caldwell & Clen of Peru, IN, Mae Boggs & Charles of Yeaddiss, KY, and Mallie Cress & Jeff of Yeaddiss, KY. 5 grandchildren: Jennifer Adams & Joe, Elbert Fouts & Merdia, Michael Bobby Simpson & Lisa, Christopher Asher & Samantha. 7 great-grandchildren: Michael Adams, Nicholas Adams, Sabrina Adams, Gracie Fouts, Ronnie Fouts, Becky Lynn Fouts, Alisha Haley Simpson. 13 step-grandchildren: Landon, Lindsey, Courtney, Triston, Jamie, Leah, Kyle, Eric, Ethan, Elaina, Alexis, Madison, and baby Samantha Joseph. 5 step-grandchildren: Daniel, Brian, Tim, James, and Samantha Joseph. A host of many other relatives and friends survive.
