Thomas Benton Lewis

Mr. Thomas Benton Lewis was born April 23, 1932 in Hyden, KY.  A son of the late James Burchell Lewis and Dora Lee Parson Lewis Woods.

Thomas was raised in Hyden and went to the military where he served honorably in the United States Army from 1952 to 1954.  He served in the 101^st Airborne. 

After being discharged from the military, Thomas moved to Michigan where he resided from 1954 until 1988.  He then moved to Alabama.  He was employed by the CSX Railroad where he worked for more than 35 years before his retirement. In 2018 Thomas moved to Annville to spend these final years with his daughter, Linda.

Thomas enjoyed fishing, and playing cards.  Thomas was an talented carpenter and enjoyed woodworking.  He was an avid outdoorsman and took pride in his yard work.

Thomas passed away Saturday, October 28, 2023 after a long illness.  Thomas was 91 years old.

Thomas was preceded in death by his parents: James Burchell Lewis and Dora Lee Parson Lewis Woods, one son: Gary Lewis, a brother: Clayton Lewis, four sisters: Faye Keith, Charlotte Cecil, Ruth Lewis and Ruby Lewis, and a special friend: Jeanette Barrentine.

Survivors include two sons: Terry Wayne Lewis of Annville, KY, and Thomas B. Brock of Rockwood, MI, three daughters: Linda Cunigan (Tom) of Annville, KY, Tina Mutschall (Helmut) of Sydney, Australia, and Sonja Pennington (Thomas) of Wooton, KY.  He also leaves surviving nine grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends also survive.

A graveside service will be held at 1p.m. Friday, November 03, 2023 at the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Southeast with full military honors by the Leslie County DAV Chapter # 133.  Inurnment will follow the service.
