Vina Osborne Collett was born on May 28, 1932, in Pup’s Branch (Phillip’s Fork) in Leslie Co. She was born the eighth of nine children to the union of the late Wiley and Bertha Napier Osborne.
During her childhood, Vina helped to keep the farm with her parents. She always had two milk cows, seven head of cattle and numerous hogs and chickens. With the cows and the chickens came a great resource for milk and eggs. Vina saw an opportunity before her, and she engaged in that opportunity. She then started selling milk and eggs to her neighbors in the community. Her favorite thing about having farm animals was when calves were born. She would load up the calves, take them to the stockyard in London and sell them.
Vina was a devout Christian. She attended church most of her life and was faithful in her attendance. She was of the Baptist faith and was a member of the Bowen’s Creek United Baptist Church at Essie, KY.
Throughout the many years of Vina’s life, she got to experience many things. Many of which was with her family whom she dearly loved. She enjoyed traveling with her husband to many different states and site seeing. She was an avid sports fan, especially for her granddaughter, Samantha. She would travel to all her games to watch her play basketball and baseball. She was also an avid UK basketball fan.
After years of growing up working outside, Vina developed a love for the outdoors. She enjoyed going to the lake, fishing and camping with her family. Not only was she a homemaker inside, but the outside as well. She was a gardener and would can her harvest annually. She liked to keep her home and yard well groomed. She would weed eat her yard until she became feeble and unable to do so.
Above all, she was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She had the “Osborne” temperament, but she was stern in her actions and remained reserved, as well as respectable.
