Wanda Faye Vickers

June 12, 1952 — January 6, 2024

Wanda Faye Vickers, was born on June 12, 1952, in Leslie County, Kentucky, a daughter of the late Willie J. Lewis and the late Nannie Fields Lewis.  She departed this walk of life on Saturday, January 06, 2024 in London, Kentucky at the age of 70.  She had been a longtime resident of Leslie County until moving to London, where she was residing at the time of her passing.

Wanda's career in education began as a bus driver, wherein she displayed immense dedication to the children she transported. Her determination and passion led her to become the head of the W.B. Muncy "Head Start" program. For 25 years, Wanda selflessly served the Leslie County Board of Education before retiring. Her commitment to shaping young minds and creating a nurturing environment for children left an indelible impact on each one she taught.  Many years after retiring, former students would still come up to her and say, "Miss Wanda!".  She is forever treasured by each one.

After enduring the heartbreaking loss of her husband and daughter, Wanda found a renewed enthusiasm for life. She embraced each day with a zest that inspired those around her. Wanda's resilience in overcoming adversity is a testament to her strength of character.

Wanda had many interests that brought joy to her life. She loved traveling with her son to numerous destinations around the world, creating lasting memories along their journeys. Additionally, she found comfort and companionship through her beloved dogs named "Little Bit" and "Harley." Their loyal presence offered warmth during challenging times.

Family was at the core of Wanda's being, and she cherished every moment spent with them. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, mother-in-law, and friend. Wanda's proudest accomplishments were her family and the years of countless lives she touched throughout her career.  She was a devoted wife to her beloved Husband, Donnie until his passing.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by: her husband who she wed on October 14, 1967;  A beloved daughter Michelle Vickers.  One brother Freddie Lewis, two sisters Janette Lewis and Loretta Lewis; brothers-in-las: Jimmy and Edward Vickers; sisters-in-law: Edith Townsend, Janetta Hornsby and Margie Lewis.

She leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories to be carried by those who survive her. Among them is her son Donnie Ray Vickers Jr., of Monterey, CA alongside his wife Joann. In addition to Donnie Jr., Wanda is survived by three brothers: Larry Lewis of Yeaddiss, KY, James Edward Lewis (Sue) of Florida, and Charles Lewis (Carolyn) of Michigan. Her sister Brenda Daniels of Buckhorn, KY.  Wanda's surviving family also includes three sisters-in-law: Deborah McClure of Harlan, KY, Margaret Reynolds of Creve Coeur, IL, and Eunice Vickers of Pekin, IL.  She is also treasured by her four cherished grandchildren: Steven Vickers, Melinda Warshawsky, Lindsay Vickers, and Kaitlyn Rae Vickers.
