Johnny Sizemore

On Friday, May 20th 2022, the Sizemore family lost the leader of their pack when Johnnie Sizemore of Hyden, Kentucky passed away at the age of 82.
Johnnie was born in Hyden on March 21, 1940, to his late father Keen Sizemore of Hyden, Kentucky and late mother Madge (Begley) Sizemore of Dryhill, Kentucky. Johnnie was the 7th of 14 siblings.  He was the epitome of a “mountain man” who loved to be outdoors and in the mountains.  Johnnie was the self-proclaimed “best hand to grow a garden that ever lived.”  He was a hard worker, retiring after working in a steel factory for more than 30 years. He taught his children the importance of work and self-reliance through his actions and his words.  Johnnie was a founding member of the Leslie County Saddle Club and served as the club’s first President. He spent many years dedicated to the Saddle Club coordinating horse shows, trail rides and rodeos for the local community.  Johnnie loved hunting, horseback riding and spending time with his family. He was known for his story telling and never let a chance to tell one get by him.  He spent the last several years devoted to caring for the love of his life and showed his family the true meaning of love and devotion.

Johnnie was preceded in death by his parents, his infant sister Mildred, his infant brother William, his brothers David Sizemore, Monroe Sizemore and Estill Vernon Sizemore, and his sisters Reba (Sizemore) Horton and Ethel (Sizemore) Scott).

He is survived by his wife Sally (Woods) Sizemore; children Keenus Scott Sizemore and his wife Suzi, Roger Dale Sizemore, and Melissa Carol (Sizemore) Harden and her husband Ardis; 8 grandsons, Kevin, Lukas, Johnathan, Trenton, Kyle, Travis, Justin, and Jordan; and 13 great-grandchildren, Kenny, Joseph, Korey, Carter, Linkin, Kaden, Kane, Kayzlie, Dawson, Sophia, Acelynn, Abigayle, and Russell.  Johnnie is also survived by his brothers James Sizemore and his wife Juanita, Troy Lee Sizemore, and sisters Fannie Mae Asher, Carolyn Asher, Emma Lee Keen and her husband David Wayne, and Nancy Rose and her husband Marvin, as well as many dearly loved nephews and nieces. A host of other relatives and friends also survive his passing.

Visitation is scheduled from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm on June 11th, 2022 at the Thousandsticks United Methodist Church, 121 Red Bird Road, Thousandsticks, Kentucky.  A Celebration of Life service will follow immediately at 2:00 pm.  All are invited to attend.
