Ronnie David Smith, born August 11, 1949, to the late Velta and Delilah Smith in Madison, WV. He served honorably in the United States Army and by occupation he worked as a machinist for Nabisco in Evanston, IL. He was united in marriage to Donna Melton on October 04, 1969, in Evanston, IL. He was of the Pentecostal faith and had been a resident of Perry County since his retirement and was residing at Avawam, KY at the time of his passing. Ronnie loved the Lord and serving Him. He evangelized for many years before becoming disabled. He also served in the capacity of Sunday School teacher and had a broadcast on the Hazard Radio Station that ran for 12 years. He enjoyed studying the Bible, collecting coupons, walking and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Ronnie departed this walk of life on Saturday, September 11, 2021, at the Hazard Appalachian Regional Medical Center at the age of 72.
In addition to his parents, Ronnie was preceded in death by brothers, Larry, Dallas, Rick and Greg Smith; Doug Booth, sisters, Betty Guy, Dottie Purselley, Rebecca Adkins and Robin Chandler.
Ronnie leaves surviving his loving & devoted wife, Donna Melton Smith of Avawam, KY, two sons, Ronnie David Smith II (Polly) of Vicco, KY and Jamie Ryan Smith (Navisha) of Magnolia, KY; three daughters, Jenny Marie Combs (Lester) of Avawam, KY, Amanda Smith (Bud) of VA, and Jessica Danielle Smith (Jared Lowe) of Nicholasville, KY; one brother, Dennis “Rocky” Smith of WV and one sister, Anita Cooper of WV. One cherished grandson, Quinton Jace Combs.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. – Thursday, September 16, 2021, at the Wolfe & Sons Funeral Home chapel with David Pennington and Ned Turner officiating. Interment will follow in the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Southeast with full military honors observed by the Leslie County D.A.V. chapter # 133. The family will receive friends for visitation from 12:00 until 1:00 P.M. – Thursday prior to the service.
