Funeral: 1p.m. – Sunday at Wolfe & Sons Funeral Home with Rev. Billy Joe Lewis officiating

Interment: Dewey Wells Cemetery – Smilax with Full Firefighter honors

Visitation: 6-9 p.m. – Saturday at the funeral home chapel.

Ruthie Baker of Smilax, Kentucky was born July 09, 1948 in Smilax, Kentucky to the union of the late Lee Callahan and the late Ona Wells Day.  She was a life-long resident of Leslie County and was a devoted member of the Wooton Fire Department, where she served as President.  She was affiliated with the Full Gospel Church of Jesus Christ at Smilax.  Ruthie was united in marriage to Rufus Baker on September 09, 1967.  She was a homemaker and a beloved wife, mother, sister and friend.  Ruthie had a “green thumb”, that was evident in the many flowers she grew.  She also enjoyed deer and turkey hunting.  Ruthie had a love for the people of her community and was always willing to lend a helping hand.  Ruthie departed this life on Wednesday, January 15, 2020.  She was 71 years old.

In addition to her parents, Ruthie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Rufus Baker; one brother, Denny Callahan; one sister, Ruby Day; one brother-in-law, Glenn Day; one grandchild, Olivia Grace Baker; one great grandchild, Camellia Marie Lewis.

Survivors include, one Son: Hurlen Baker (Savannah) of Smilax, KY; two daughters, Diana Sansom (Donald) of  Hunington, WV and Viola Lewis (Tony) of Wooton, KY; one sister: Nola Day of Stanford, KY; one brother: Danny Callahan  (Brenda) of Stanford, KY;  six cherished grandchildren, Zachary Lewis (Denise), Casey Lewis, Alisha Staley (Tyler), Makayla Sansom, J.D. Sansom, Daxton Williams, and one to be, Caiden Baker;  one special grandson, Tyler Napier; three beloved great-grandchildren, Emberly Staley, Izaya Lewis, and Easton Staley.  A host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive.

Arrangements are being handled carefully under the direction of Wolfe & Sons Funeral Home
